SPEECH: Paragraph
Good Day ladies and gentleman. A pleasant afternoon to all of you. I am so blessed to be standing in front my batchmates, our parents, professors, and special guests in behalf of the batch 2013 of FEU ITHM.
I want to greet all of you “Yahoo and Congratulations Day!” This is the day where we can finally express our joy and say that finally one of our lifelong goals, whether it is for students or parents, will be fulfilled. For us, students, while we were still kids, we were asked what is our goal or dream, and we would answer them “I want to graduate from college,” and for the parents, they would answer “I want to see my child finish his/her studies and graduate.” So today is the long-awaited time where us, students, could finally be proud and give our parents one of the best gifts and it is our College Graduation day.
As a student, there is this one thing that we just need to swipe and will always need to be allowed to enter the school premises. We always wear this in school and we present this when in need for any form of identification. As the rule says it, “No ID, No entry.” So I brought with me this very special thing that has been with me in my whole stay at FEU. This is my school ID, and this will always be a symbol for my college years. From our school IDs, we can see how much we’ve changed and developed in the past years. This is the face when we first applied at FEU for college. We were still young, a graduate from High School, and still does not have the knowledge needed for our target profession. We can just ponder how much we’ve gained from studying here in FEU.
I believe that I was able to maximize my four years stay in FEU as a Tourism Management student. Some memorable lessons and experiences are the NSTP Seminars that made us aware how to be a blessing to our community, PE lessons that taught us how to dance and swim, remarkable Domestic and International Tourist Destinations, Culinary Arts where we have practiced our cooking and presentation skills, using Amadeus where we have learned to make airline bookings, Tour Packaging where we learned to make tour itineraries and costings, Video Presentations and Reportings, Event that we have Organized, and Defense Papers like Marketing Plan and Feasibility Study. As a whole, I was able to learn much from my admirable professors, meet true friends, maintain my scholarship, join and actively participate in the Ushering and Tour Guiding Committee, succeed in a quiz bee with the FEU Tourism Academics Committee, learn at least some leadership skills from my TOMSOC peers, and had a fulfilling OJT experience at Forefront Tours & Cruises, Inc. and MacroAsia Airport Services Corporation.
I just want to share the values that shaped my actions in my college years. First, my handsome Father always tells me and my siblings, as our grandparents have also told him, that we should study hard and be efficient while studying. It is because education is the only inheritance we could get from them. Education is like a seed that will produce fruits and help us prosper in the future. They told us that if we want to have a beautiful life, have a car, house, and anything we want, we should start by studying hard. Therefore, I treated education as a treasure.
Second, I learned from my mom “To do what you love, and find joy in what you do.” When I chose tourism as my course, my parents have just supported me and didn’t dictate of the course to take. They just want me to make sure that it is what I really like. If you love what you do, you will be able to perform well. Therefore, in anything that I do, I at least find something that will make me have interest in what I do. My family are good motivators. They compliment and reward my achievements. I also really like the feeling that in every achievement, I am able to make my parents very proud and pleased of me. This is the only thing that I could do to thank my parents of all their hard work.
Third is “Aim High, Soar High.” I always target for a high goal, and try my best to reach it. If I wasn’t able to reach my goal, but still the outcome that I will have is still a favourable one. Just imagine two people with different goals in an exam, one aims to have a perfect score and the other just aims to pass the exam. Who do you think will have a higher score? I bet it’s the one who aims to have a perfect score. The one who aims to just pass the exam will most likely either pass the exam or fail the exam. On the other hand, the one who aims for the perfect score will most likely either have the perfect score or have a passing grade which I believe is still a high score.
Next, “Count your Blessings”. Whenever I am discouraged, thinking what God has given me will enable me to be encouraged because I will always realize that He has given much already than I deserved. You will see that blessings are always greater than your problems. Having this in mind, I gain the courage in dealing with challenges.
Last, “Do right.” The song says, “Right is always right, and wrong is always wrong, and we must learn to separate the two. If you love the right, the Lord will give you light, so seek the right in everything you do. “ In handling any situation, doing the right thing should always be our main concern. God hates sin, and sin separates us from God. Therefore, we must always do right to be right with God.
As soon to be Alumni of FEU, I just want to remind my fellow batchmates that as we leave this halls, there are four people that you will represent from now on. You carry the name of Yourself, your Parents, FEU, and your God. By this, we should always have the sense of accountability not to stain this names. We should be bring with us the core values of FEU. Fortitude (strength of mind that enables a person to encounter danger with courage), Excellence (the quality of being very good of its kind), and Uprightness (being marked by strong moral righteousness). In case you need the strength for fortitude, just apply “Count your blessings.” To reach for excellence, always “Aim High, and Soar High”, and for uprightness, “doing right” should always be our main concern in everything we do.
I know that we will miss the Assignments, Quizzes, Reports, Group Study, Major Exams, and our beloved professors that shared their knowledge and skills, exhibited patience, and believed in us which prepared us for our future career, but be reminded that “Schooling may be over, but education continues.”
To our parent’s hardwork, I really want to say “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being there with us ever since. We love you, and we are so happy that finally this day we could reward your hard work. ”
To my batchmates, I am so happy and proud that we have overcome the challenges. We have finished the race, and it’s now time to thank and give all the glory to our God.
Kudos fellow Tamaraws! Yahoo and Congratulations day FEU ITHM Batch 2013!
